What to eat in Bangkok - Part 4

Welcome to the last part of this food guide in Bangkok!
Actually we should be have 5 days trip in Bangkok. However since my flight got cancelled, so I bought new flight tickets and back to my country one day earlier. (You can read more about my travel experience during pandemic at this post). We chose Garuda Indonesia to took as back for safety reason, so we departed from Suvarnabhumi Airport - Bangkok. At this airport, there's one restaurant that we love the most, and it's always be a mandatory for us to dine in there even we're just having a short layover. If you want to know more about this place, keep reading this post until finish because I'll write completely about the 4th day in Bangkok - or we could said “What to eat at Suvarnabhumi Airport?”

Day 4 : Suvarnabhumi Airport

Asian Corner
It's not the first time for us to be at Suvarnabhumi Airport, and believe it or not, we have our favorite restaurant here. It is Asian Corner. We even remember the location of this restaurant exactly, where everything looks the same here. It is located at Concourse D, after you pass immigration check. If you just having a transit at Suvarnabhumi Airport you also can visit this place. I've tried some of their dishes and they are delicious. Even I'd said it's too good for a standard of airport food.

However, in between many options, we have our favorite meal. It's a set of rice, tom yum goong (prawn), and fried (omelet) egg. It looks like just an ordinary meal, but it's not. The tom yum has a tasty soup and it also comes with medium size prawn. It's really good to eat the soup together with rice. But what makes it better was the egg. It was the best fried egg that we ever had. We never found any fried egg taste like that. It was little bit crispy at the outside, but it still soft at the inside. It's not too dried at all. They also seasoned it very well and it's really tasty. No matter how long the layover time, this place is a must for us when we're at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Burger King

You must be familiar with this burger. Who doesn't know Burger King? You can find it in every country. So why do I want to eat it at Bangkok? The reason is because it has "pork" options for the meat and it's really delicious. Believe it or not, it also something that we must it when having a transit at Suvarnabhumi Airport. But this time, we tried to order a new dish which is a Taro with Corn Pie (THB 35). OMG! It was very very tasty. This pie has a hot melted creamy taro flavor as the filling, with some corn and it's a perfect combination. It's really something that you must try when in Thailand, because you'll never get it in any Burger King in other countries.

It was the end of our culinary trip in Bangkok. Actually, before we went to Bangkok, we had a lot of lists about food that we wanted try. However because of Covid 19 (which made us worry all the time) and Ivan also wasn't feeling well at that time, we couldn't complete it. But that's fine. Everything we had during this trip, has fulfill our desire for food in Bangkok. Bangkok, we love you.. Once this pandemic is over, we'll be back with our children, for sure....

[Japan] Lunch at Micasadeco & Cafe, Kyoto

Japanese Pancake with Match flavor at Micasadeco & Cafe
As a food lover, I love to try new food - especially when it's unique and has a lot of good reviews. From many countries that I've visited, I'd said that Japan is a country with the most unique yet delicious food I ever had. Therefore, I never get bored to visit Japan. My visit to Japan is not just because of their beautiful culture, but also for their amazing food. For me, travel to Japan is a culinary trip, and it's a mandatory to try new dishes in every single day.

Last year, I just found a delicious yet unique dish in Tokyo. It was a Japanese souffle pancake. What makes it different with the other pancake is the texture. It really soft and fluffy, and even it can jiggling when you move the plate. Besides the texture, it also has a good taste. I could taste the "eggs" and "milk" flavor in every bites. Ever since then, I never found any better pancake beside this Japanese pancake.

Since Japanese pancake is my favorite dish, I didn't want to missed this food when I was visiting Japan last spring. However, we just visited Osaka and Kyoto (Kansai area), so we need to find other restaurant who serves this kind of pancake. At the end of searching, luckily we found a cafe which really famous in Osaka, and the serve this fluffy pancake. It is Micasadeco & Cafe. However we have many food lists that need to be visited in Osaka, and we were gladful knowing that they just opened a new outlet in Kyoto. Read about this information we decided to go to this cafe at a lunch time.

Micasadeco & Cafe Kyoto located at Kawaramachi area, not far from Nishiki market. This cafe not located at the crowd place. You need to walk around 1 block from the market, at the local neighbourhood. Since the door was always closed and its building also looks like a local house, it's quite hard for us to found this place. Since this cafe really popular, I thought it will be crowded and has a long queue like the one I had in Tokyo. But it's not! From the outside I just saw a quite traditional restaurant, with a picture of pancake.

After make sure it was the right place, we stepped inside and I thought it was the most beautiful cafe I ever visited. Like the outside part of the building which designed like a Japanese traditional house, the interior also has the same design. We're talking to the staff who was standing behind the door, and he told me to wait at the waiting room. The waiting room itself also looks amazing. It has a unique furniture and made me feels like at the museum - not a waiting room.

It was 1.30 PM so we already passed the lunch peak hours. There was only 2 peoples in front of us and we just wait for around 30 minutes to get a table. After being told the table was ready, we were walking through the small corridor, and once again I was being surprised with their interior. From the traditional style at the outside and the unique stuff at the waiting room, now I faced a very cute and colorful dining place. What I mean with colorful is not a bright color, but it's dominated with pink amd other pastel color. This pink ambience makes me in love with this cafe.

That's the first impression from me about the dining place of Micasadeco & Cafe Kyoto. About the food, it also didn't taste bad. Here are the reviews of dishes that we ordered:

Pork Kakuni Omelette ¥900
Since it's a lunch time, we ordered a savory menu first before eat their sweet dishes. We ordered a pork fried rice with omelette on top. It taste very delicious. However, the rice was too soft and it's not suitable to be cooked as a fried rice.

"Matcha" Fluffy Pancake ¥1450
This fluffy pancake was the main purpose of our visit to Micasadeco. There are 2 flavors for this type of pancake : matcha and ricotta cheese. Since we're in Kyoto and Kyoto was famous for its matcha, we decided to order this pancake with matcha flavour. Well, the texture of the pancake was really amazing. It was very soft and buttery. The texture is even better than the one I had in Tokyo. However, the taste of matcha sauce "destroyed" the delicacy of the pancake itself. The sauce was bland and I couldn't taste anything. It felt like I ate plain pancake, without any topping or sauce.

Cherry Blossom Pancake ¥1550
I saw this pancake on the menu, and noticed it might be a seasonal dish. We ordered this pancake as well because Ivan and Aurelia don't like matcha flavor. This menu doesn't come with fluffy pancake. Instead, it comes with springy - thin pancake. Even though their fluffy pancake taste much better than springy pancake, but this cherry blossoms pancake has amazing toppings. Cherry salted pickles, seasonal fresh strawberry, and crispy pie, those are the toppings for this pancake. To complete the delicacy, they also serve the pancake with a thick custard (which come along with fresh strawberry), homemade strawberry butter, fresh strawberry sauce, and cherry ice cream. The best parts of this pancake was the fresh strawberry sauce and cherry ice cream. The sweetness level was perfect and its so perfect to be eaten together with the pancake.

Yoghurt Smoothie ¥700
To complete our lunch, we also ordered a glass of smoothie which looks really fresh. There are several options for smoothie, but I chose yoghurt smoothie. Unfortunately, the smoothie was tasteless and it was too freeze. I thought they put too much ice cubes in it until it couldn't be drunk. At the end, we need to used spoon to "eat" all the smoothies. Well, it such a disappointment to get this "quality" of smoothie from a fancy cafe.

The Best BBQ Pork Ribs in Sydney : Hurricane's Grill VS Ribs & Burger

BBQ Pork Ribs at Hurricane's Grill - $59
BBQ Pork Ribs - who doesn't love it?? Grilled delicious pork ribs mixed with tasty BBQ sauce, it's a paradise for a "carnivore". This meat dish is our family favorite food, and we always looking for that wherever we travel, including in Sydney. There are some popular restaurants in Sydney that well known for their pork ribs. I've tried most of them, but there are 2 restaurants that I think they have the best pork ribs - Hurricane's Grill and Ribs & Burgers. At this post, I'll make a comparison between those restaurant, and I gonna tell you which one is the best, in my opinion.

Dinner at Hurricane's Grill - Top Ryde, Sydney
Hurricane's Grill
Everybody knows Hurricane's Grill. They have many restaurants not just in Sydney, but also at other countries. There are several branches in Sydney, but the most popular one is at Darling Harbour. I've dinner twice at Hurricane's Grill, first at the Darling Harbour, and the second at Top Ryde. They have the same menu, and same taste as well. I was having dinner at Top Ryde branch only because it was full at Darling Harbour.

I decided to have a dinner at Hurricane's Grill after got a recommendation from my mom in law. She had a dinner there before and she said that the meat was really tender and also come in huge size.  First impression, yesssss. It looks appetizing from the size and its glazzy sauce. But how about the taste?

The meat was not as tender as people talking about. The BBQ sauce was really tasty. However I only could taste it at the outside part. The inside part, it was really bland. The good things from this plate was the sweet potato chips as a side dish. It's the best sweet potato chips ever...

Pork Knuckle - $40
I might be dissapointed with the pork ribs, but I liked the other dish that I ordered - Pork Knuckle. I liked pork knuckle especially when it cooked this way. Crispy at the outside, but very juicy and tender at the inside. It served with gravy sauce and apple puree which makes it perfect..

Pork Baby Back at Ribs & Burger $39,9
Ribs & Burgers
This restaurant also have some branches in Sydney. But I was having dinner at Ribs & Burgers - Neutral Bay. First time I saw this place, I didn't know that they also popular. I just randomly looking for a restaurant around the apartment (where we stayed) for a family dinner. Knowing they serve pork ribs BBQ, I decided to give them a try.

The pork ribs size was much smaller than the one at Hurricane's Grill, and it served with not so fancy plate. Because of its presentation, I had doubts about the taste. Well, when people say "Don't judge a book by its cover", I think it's a perfect words for this dish. The meat was really really tender, and not just that. It has a very rich flavors, until I could taste the sauce at the inside part of the meat.

Super soft and delicious "Garlic Bread" at Hurricane's Grill
Which one is the best? Hurricane's Grill or Ribs & Burgers?
For the taste of bbq pork ribs, I'd said that Ribs & Burgers is the best one. I've been eating pork ribs everywhere, but this one was very tender delicious. However, for other dishes including the side dish (sweet potato fries), Hurricane's Grill is better. And another plus point for Hurricane's Grill, it has a great location - at Darling Harbour - where you can have a dinner and watch fireworks show every Saturday night.

Celsius Coffee Co - The Best Place for Having Breakfast in Sydney

Hey all!
If you're looking at my Instagram feed lately, you'd see it's full with my pictures (with my family) while we were on vacation in Sydney. Yup, it was last month, and I still remember our happiness at that moment. I really miss their summer weather at night and I also miss our culinary journey. Just liked a starving peoples, we never stopped eating and drinking because everything so delicious. We stopped in almost every coffee shops, bakery, and even at the bubble tea shops. To be honest, the reason why I love food in Sydney is not just because of the good taste, but also because of their ingredients are very healthy. You can see how Australian serve tasty yet healthy food from their breakfast dishes. Australian peoples always serve a plate full of healthy ingredients with a good taste for breakfast. Sorry to say this, but it was totally different with our daily breakfast which mostly Indonesian food that full of unhealthy carbs (read : rice).

A healthy breakfast
Since I know Australia very well known for their breakfast (or usually called brekkie) menu, I was looking for the best place for having breakfast in Sydney. I found several answers and I was trying to visit them every morning. However, there's one place that I think it's the best place for having breakfast in Sydney. It's Celsius Coffee Co.

Kirribilli Wharf, Sydney
Celsius Coffee Co is a very popular place for having breakfast in Sydney. It's located at Kirribilli Commuter Terminal Wharf, which could be reached easily by taking ferry from Circular Quay. Looking at the picture above you must be think this place was overrated because of its location. "A beautiful harbour view, with ordinary taste yet expensive food" - it must be something that you think about this place. Well, I'd confessed that I also thought like that at the first time. But it's all changed after I had a breakfast there.

The crowd at Celsius Coffee Co
At the weekdays, Celsius Coffee Co open at 7.30AM, while at the weekend they open at 8AM. We arrived at 8.30AM at the weekend, and we waited for around 30 minutes to get a table. Actually at that time it's not too crowded. However, since their place was just on the ferry wharf, so they have a limited tables and we needed to take turn with other customers. FYI, reservation is not accepted here. So you need to come earlier if you don't want to wait too long.

Delicious pastry at Celsius Coffee Co

While waiting for the table, we bought some croissants that they sell. The price was slightly cheaper than other pastry shops in Sydney. But it taste so delicious. Not just croissants, they also sell doughnuts which looks yumm.

Callebaut Hot Chocolate - $5,5 & Chai Latte - $5,5
I looked at the menu and realized they don't have a lot of variant for their food. They only serve some simple breakfast dishes, but all of them sounds tasty. We ordered a plate of savory food and a plate of sweet dishes to share, not forgetting a cup of chai latte and a cup of hot chocolate because the temparature was getting lower at that time.

Celsius Breakfast - $19
Let's talk about the savory dish that we ordered. Celsius Breakfast is the most complete breakfast dishes at this cafe. This menu comes with a toast, sauteed mushrooms, avocado, jamon, and eggs. You can choose whether the eggs want to be fried or poached. But I prefer the poached eggs for breakfast. This simple yet healthy dish taste very good. It's not blend and seasoned perfectly. I love the mushroom & jamon very much.

Celsius Waffle at Celsius Coffee Co
Celsius Waffle - $19
Next is the sweet dish. As you can see, the presentation of this food was really outstanding. A round shaped waffle with colorful berries on top, makes it looks beautiful. But not just the presentation, it also has a very delicious taste - especially the peanut butter cream. It has a very unique taste which I never found anywhere.

I love all of their dishes, and no wonder Celsius Coffee Co always has a place in every lists that talked about the best place for having breakfast in Sydney. Anyway, if you want a simple breakfast, you can create your own like Ivan did.

Sea Circus, Seminyak - Bali

Seminyak, as one of the most crowded area in Bali, offers many great places to eat. Started from local "warungs", until fine dining restaurants, you can find it all the way in Seminyak. As a foodies, it's a paradise for me and I don't wanna missed any visit to the popular places for eat there. Between many restaurants, there's one restaurant that I really wanna try, it's Motel Mexicola. Motel Mexicola is restaurant who serves Mexican food. I love Mexican food. I love tacos, nachos, and churros!! Those all my favorites and I was so craving for them. Yeah, it's kinda hard to get Mexican food in my town. So when I see there's a good Mexican Restaurant in Bali, I don't wanna missed this chance.

Cozy indoor seating at Sea Circus

Short story, we decided to came there for a lunch, because at night this place change into a bar, and I thing it's not suitable for children. When I was there, I found out they only have outdoor seating and at that time Bali was really really hot. My son, Winston always be cranky everytime being at the hot weather, so we moved to other restaurant who serves tacos as well, Sea Circus.

Sea Circus also quite famous in Seminyak. Located not far from Motel Mexicola, this place offers a great food and thankfully, they have an indoor seating so I don't need to feel "hot" while enjoying my food. Sea Circus well known for their tacos. However it only available at lunch time which started at 12PM. Well, while waiting for that time, we decided to order a smoothie bowl. Actually, we're not too hungry at that time because we just had breakfast at the hotel. We just want to have a tacos "snack time", to fulfill my craving with Mexican food.

Acai Bowl - IDR 95K
Acai Bowl
While I was asking the waitress a recommendation for smoothie bowl, she told me Acai Bowl is the most favorite smoothie bowl at Sea Circus. It made with frozen acai berry blended with banana, blueberries, mango, and coconut water, and it's totally delicious. It's not the first time for me to eat smoothie bowl. I make it everyday as a breakfast at home (i'll post the recipe next time). But this smoothie bowl is different. I love the crispiness of granola (they use a lot of it!), and also the very cold smoothie which comes from the frozen acai berry.

Spicy Prawn Tacos - IDR 90K
Spicy Prawn Tacos 2Pcs (90K)
Tacos at Sea Circus is unlike the original taco. It's not a hard shell tacos. Instead, it's soft and unfolded. There are many options for the toppings, but this time I chose spicy prawn with mango salsa sauce, infused with sour cream. To be honest, I don't really like the sauce, because it's quite tasteless. But I love the prawn. It was grilled perfectly with tasty seasons.. Maybe that's the reasons why they make the sauce tasteless.. So I can taste more the flavor of the prawn. Anyway, you can choose is to be served as 2 or 3 pcs tacos.

Mango Tango (55K)
After had a lovely taste of Mango Lassie at NOOK , everytime we go to cafe or restaurant Aurelia always request a mango flavoured drink. Luckily, they have mango flavoured smoothies called "Mango Tango". Mango Tango is a smoothies made with mango, yoghurt, and milk. It wasn't bad, but not as good as Mango Lassie at NOOK.

Mango Tango Smoothies - IDR 55K

My lunch at Sea Circus wasn't too bad. But some people said this place is more popular for breakfast than for lunch. Maybe next time I'll come back for breakfast and eat more smoothie bowl..
